Honouring Country

Stories Shared for Future Generations

Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance is calling on Aboriginal Elders from across the Mid North Coast to take part in a landmark cultural project — The 2025 Elders Storybook. This program is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, the book will capture and preserve the personal, historical, and contemporary stories of Elders from the Worimi, Biripi, Dunghutti, and Gumbaynggirr Nations.

Spanning from Karuah to Corindi, this project will be a powerful celebration of the knowledge keepers whose stories shape the identity of the region. Whether it’s a treasured memory, a lesson for the next generation, or a reflection on life today, each contribution will become part of a permanent record for communities now and in the future.

“This project ensures the stories of our Elders are not only heard now but carried forward for our children and grandchildren. It’s about honouring the knowledge keepers and protecting our cultural heritage.” — Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance

The Elders Storybook project will run throughout September 2025, with a Saltwater Freshwater representative visiting each participating Elder in their own community at a time that suits them. This personalised approach ensures that Elders can share their stories in a comfortable and familiar environment. The completed book will be launched soon after the project wraps up, creating a lasting record of the voices and experiences of Aboriginal Elders on the Mid North Coast.

To take part, you must be a recognised Elder in your community and live within the Saltwater Freshwater footprint — which includes the Worimi, Biripi, Dunghutti, and Gumbaynggirr Nations from Karuah to Corindi.
