What the Workshop Is
Woven Wednesday is a relaxed monthly weaving and cultural workshop series presented at The Gallery, operated by Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance. Held on the first Wednesday of each month from March to November 2026, the workshops invite participants to slow down, sit together, share stories, and create with their hands in a welcoming and creative environment. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch, spend time in the gallery, and yarn about Aboriginal culture, creativity and connection while learning weaving techniques guided by artist Kathy Stevens. The sessions explore weaving as both a creative and meditative practice, connecting contemporary making with culture, story and community.
No prior experience is necessary, making the workshops suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike.

Workshop Focus
5 August 2026 | Coil Woven Necklace with emu feathers | With Kathy Stevens
This activity will involve creating a necklace by weaving a coil out of raffia, participants will have the option to add beads and emu feathers which will hang from the bottom of the coil, we will also make the cord necklace to hang the coil off.
2 September 2026 | Single coil raffia bangle | With Kathy Stevens
This activity will involve creating a single coil hoop bangle made with raffia, participants will have the option to add beads and emu feathers to their bangles.
Additional monthly weaving workshops will continue throughout 2026, with upcoming themes and workshop focuses to be announced.

About the Facilitator
Kathy Stevens
Kathy Stevens (Webb) is a descendant of the Darug tribe in Sydney, her clan is Boorooberongal.
She first moved to the Coff’s Harbour area in 1985, and has called Gumbaynggirr Country home for nearly 40years.
She draws her inspiration from the community and land which she has raised her 3 children on.
She has always enjoyed creating art pieces using natural fibres that Mother nature produces.
She feels like it is a form of meditation, which helps to heal the soul and keep you connected to the earth.
