About the Event
Wear Your Power is a unique creative experience that celebrates identity, culture and pride through wearable art.
Led by acclaimed Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay artist Dennis Golding, this full-day workshop invites LGBTQIA+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from the Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti, Biripi and Worimi nations, together with non-Indigenous LGBTQIA+ participants, to design and create their own personalised “super cape”—a powerful symbol of resilience, belonging and self-expression. Aboriginal participants will be prioritised through the selection process, ensuring the project remains First Nations-led and culturally grounded.
Hosted at The Gallery in Coffs Harbour, the workshop provides a culturally safe, welcoming and creative environment where participants can explore storytelling, identity and connection through contemporary art practice. No previous artistic experience is required.
Participants will receive all materials, enjoy a catered lunch, and be guided through the creative process by Dennis Golding in a supportive and inclusive space. Throughout the day there will also be opportunities to yarn, connect with others and share stories.
The completed capes will become part of a professionally curated exhibition at The Gallery, celebrating the creativity, diversity and strength of LGBTQIA+ communities across the Mid North Coast. Each work will be accompanied by a personal artist statement, allowing visitors to connect with the stories behind the artworks.
Who Can Apply
Expressions of Interest are invited from:
- LGBTQIA+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from the Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti, Biripi and Worimi nations.
- Non-Indigenous LGBTQIA+ people living on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
As places are limited, participation is by Expression of Interest (EOI). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants will be prioritised.
Participants must be 18 years or older.

About Dennis Golding
Dennis Golding is a Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay artist whose practice explores identity, memory, belonging and community through sculpture, installation, photography and wearable art. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is recognised for creating spaces where people can express identity, strength and resilience through contemporary artistic practice.
