Join Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance for Language Lives Here – Gumbaynggirr Community Day, a free celebration of Gumbaynggirr Language, culture and community at The Gallery in Coffs Harbour on Saturday 24 October 2026, from 11am–2pm.

Held on Gumbaynggirr Country as part of NSW Aboriginal Languages Week, the Community Day is an opportunity for people of all ages to come together, hear Gumbaynggirr Language, learn new words and pronunciation, and discover simple ways to bring Language into everyday life.

Throughout the day, The Gallery will come alive with Language through interactive learning and pronunciation activities, children’s Language storytime with a local Aboriginal author, yarns around the fire pit, weaving, live Aboriginal music and activities for children and families. There will also be a free community sausage sizzle and refreshments.

A special part of the day will be the launch of the Language Lives Here – 30-Day Language Challenge.

The first 50 people or families to arrive will receive a free Challenge Pack featuring 30 removable household Language stickers. Each sticker includes a Gumbaynggirr word, pronunciation guide and English meaning. A QR code will connect participants to an online resource where they can listen to approved pronunciation recordings.

The challenge is simple: choose a new word each day, place the sticker on the corresponding household item, listen to the pronunciation and practise using the word. Over 30 days, Gumbaynggirr Language becomes more visible and familiar in everyday spaces.

Come along, spend some time with us and celebrate Language together.

See it. Say it. Live it.
